Brunswick Au

The golden Fears watch.

Please note; this model has been discontinued as of July 2024

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick Au is a particularly exacting object to create. It takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924, which is then realised in exquisite 18ct gold.

  • Case: 38 mm, 18ct yellow gold (750), polished, 20mm lug width
  • Dial: Crimson red colour, with gilt printing and hand applied numerals
  • Strap: Oxblood red, Bristol calf leather, handmade
  • Movement: ETA 7001, time only, manual winding
  • Water Resistance: 30 metres (3 ATM)
  • Built to order: 4-6 months from placing order

CASE

The Brunswick Au’s elegant 38mm cushion-shaped case is made from solid 18ct Gold. Crafted in the traditional way, entirely from this rich yellow-gold metal, its creation is a process requiring great skill, and the graceful curves of each watch case take over 100 hours to shape and polish.

The case and the solid caseback each bear hallmarks from the London Assay Office, and, following a Fears tradition, these comprise the initials of the Managing Director when the watch was built, in this case: ‘NBS’ for our (4th) Managing Director, Nicholas Bowman-Scargill.

The Brunswick Au is manually wound each day using a traditional ‘onion’-shaped winding crown, also made from solid Gold, and into which is set a D-colour, flawless diamond, which on Fears watches signifies a case made entirely from precious metal.

DIAL

The Brunswick Au features a Crimson Red toned dial, along with delicate, vertical brushing, applied by hand, making each watch unique. At six o’clock is the sunken sub-seconds, finished in concentric circles.

The numerals receive their own are expertly gold-plated, before being applied by hand, and these, together with the finishing of the dial, create, in the right light, the illusion of a shimmering deep burgundy colour..

The elegant, classic set of numerals was designed specially for Fears by a horological typographer, inspired by the many different typefaces Fears has used throughout its history.

HANDS

The Brunswick Au’s hands follow the same distinctive Fears shape used on other models but are represented in solid rather than skeletonized form with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light which is then finished with a gold-plated coating that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick Au is powered by a Swiss-made, manual winding La Joux-Perret D100 movement. This movement is the top-grade version, with an extended 50 hour power reserve and finished with Côtes de Genève and blued screws.

Each Brunswick Au undergoes 250 hours of timings checks and tests before being signed off.

STRAP

The Brunswick Au comes on a hand sewn strap, made using Calf Leather with contrasting champagne-gold coloured stitching and a Fears Blue Alcantara® lining. The strap is fastened by a hand-made, solid Gold pin buckle, whose shape mirrors the silhouette and cross section of the watch’s case.

The watch is also designed to fit all of the straps in our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

Shorter Strap? We are able to supply the Brunswick Au with a shorter version of the strap, simply contact us after having placed your order to let us know and we’ll ensure a shorter version of the strap is fitted to the watch.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the 20mm lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

BRITISH BOX

For decades Fears presented watches in a dark blue box with a cream-coloured lining. We are delighted to continue this tradition today.

The Brunswick Au is presented in a bespoke wooden box, crafted in Britain from English Ash featuring marquetry before being stained in our bespoke Fears Blue colour. Lined in genuine cream suede, the watch sits proudly on a special cushion.

BUILT FOR YOU

Due to the complexity and extensive hand work required to build the Brunswick Au, it is a limited production model, with a maximum of four being built in a year, each of which is built specially to order. Please allow four months for your watch to be built.
