Brunswick 40 Filton 'Raven Black'
The Fears pilots watch
Please note: the Brunswick 40 Filton will be shipping from early-May
The Fears Brunswick 40 Filton is the first pilots watch the company has made in it's 180-year history and is a classically styled aviator watch named after (and inspired by) the town (adjacent to Bristol) that boasts an extensive aeronautical history that still extends beyond the modern day.
- Case: 40mm, stainless steel, brushed and polished, 20mm lug width
- Dial: Raven Black, sunburst galvanic finish, white printing (and Grade A Super-LumiNova®)
- Strap: Woodland brown, buffalo leather, handmade
- Bracelet: 5-link, stainless steel bracelet with screw links and butterfly clasp
- Movement: LJP G100, time and date, automatic, 68hr power reserve
- Water Resistance: 150 metres (15 ATM)
Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick 40 Filton takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924 and seen here in it's sportiest execution.
CASE
The Brunswick 40 Filton’s elegant yet sporty 40mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 Filton is 150m water resistant (15 ATM), allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.
CASEBACK
The Brunswick 40 Filton comes with the option of either:
- Open exhibition caseback - offering an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement (and custom Fears Blue rotor adorned with the Bristol flower).
- Closed caseback - offering the perfect canvas for personalisation with a custom engraving (please discover engraving options here).
DIAL
The Brunswick 40 Filton is the first watch in Fears' illustrious history to feature a pilots dial. The 'Raven Black' dial is a deep, pure black sunburst finish inspired by the clarity and architecture of cockpit instruments with a raised outer section cut with radial grooves.
Situated above the baton at the 6 o’clock position a date window is cut into the dial revealing a colour-matched date disc featuring numerals in our own bespoke ‘Edwin’ typeset. The window itself features a shallow bevel running around all four sides to aide legibility and this marks the first time a date complication has been seen on the Brunswick 40.
The hand-applied numerals (with a bold triangle at 12 and batons at 3, 6 and 9 with the remainder as indices in Fears' iconic Edwin typeface) are matte white painted and have been filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova.
HANDS
The Brunswick 40 Filton features traditional sword-shaped hands but still in Fears' distinctive pipette style with a white matte painted finish (thus matching the indices) and filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova.
The 'Raven Black' has a matching white painted seconds hand, however the central sections of the handset are in black thus creating a 'ghost' effect.
MOVEMENT
The Brunswick 40 Filton is powered by a customised Swiss-made, automatic La Joux-Perret G100 movement. Winding itself when worn on the wrist this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 68 hours and a decorated winding rotor.
STRAP
The Brunswick 40 Filton can be fitted with a handmade Woodland Brown strap crafted from Buffalo leather (sourced from the Himalayas) with subtle ivory contrast stitching finely balances heritage cues with modern utility. This premium leather is one of the strongest and most durable which makes it perfect for this model.
This leather has been tanned in the same way it has been for centuries, using organic materials (and not modern techniques that utilise chemicals). It is not stretched during the tanning process, so is thicker more hard-wearing as a result.
Lined in genuine Alcantara® dyed a deep shade of blue, this lining is supremely soft against the skin yet resistant against wear. This strap is finished with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher).
Customise
You can customise your Brunswick 40 Filton with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.
BRACELET
The Brunswick 40 Filton can also be fitted to a bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.
Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.
The Brunswick 40 Filton features a 20mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.
The perfect fit!
When you purchase a Brunswick 40 Filton we can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.
INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
AMOS BOX
All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the company's heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.
The top of the box is discreetly engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
ENGRAVED PERSONAL TO YOU
Fears offers an engraving service whereby a watch can be made personal to its new owner. We work with one of the UK's leading 3D laser engravers who can engrave initials, a date, or a special verse on your watch.
