The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is the most complicated watch Fears has ever made. A watch that displays the full calendar, which is adjusted automatically (despite the length of month) whilst also taking into account the leap year every four years (with no interaction required from the owner). As the first automatic perpetual calendar wrist watch from a British brand in modern times, this is the pinnacle of Fears.

Graceful and complex, the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar introduces a new case architecture to the Brunswick family with flat brushed sides, polished wide bevels and a concave bezel and caseback.

The silhouette takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924 and seen here in its most multifaceted, yet elegant execution.

CASE

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar introduces a new complex case to the Brunswick family. At just 9.4mm thin with an additional 0.7mm of domed sapphire crystal, this is the slimmest Brunswick made to date. The case is machined from a solid block of 316L stainless steel in Switzerland where it has undergone careful finishing with brushed and highly polished surfaces, which highlight its glancing curves.

The bezel and caseback both feature a concave profile which is a first for a Fears watch. This profile lends a sophisticated feel to the watch, while also visually slimming the watch even further so its sits low down on the wrist.

Complementing the case is the Fears bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding crown that has been signed with the Fears Cypher. Across the case band are four discreet 'corrector' pushers. Each one, when depressed, adjusts one of the many functions of the watch (which once set will not need to be adjusted again until the year 2100).

50m (5 ATM) of water resistance allows the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar to be worn and enjoyed everyday taking splashes and light submersion in its stride.

Caseback

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is offered exclusively with an open exhibition caseback, offering an unobstructed view of the finely hand-decorated movement and its solid 18ct gold rotor adorned with the Bristol flower and polished cypher emblem.

DIAL

The Silver Mink dial on the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar has a warm, yet bright, silver appearance with a refined lightly-frosted surface finish making it legible whilst not distracting.

With this watch being a perpetual calendar there is a significant amount of information conveyed on its dial. Each calendar indications resides in their own sub-dial with fine grooves cut into the sunken surface and a bespoke set of 'Bristol' letters & numerals created by Fears' in-house designer exclusively for this watch.

Crisp black printing creates a pleasing contrast with the soft silver base colour ensuring the time (along with the day, date, month and leap-year) can all be read at a moments glance.

The hand-applied indicies are milled from a block of brass before being diamond cut and polished with each one receiving four bevels that catch the light with a sparkle. Coated in warm 18ct black gold they contrast perfectly with the Silver Mink dial colour.

HANDS

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar's distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hour & minute hands are milled from solid brass and polished with a diamond tipped tool. The two bevels running dow the sides of each hand are joined by an additional bevel on their tip to ensure at all times one surface catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions.

Calendar information is shown with three black gold indicator hands that gracefully move around their sub-dials as the weeks, months and years pass.

These hands are finished in a coating of black gold, thus matching the applied indices.

MOVEMENT

This is where things really get complex, yet remain refined.

Housed within the slim 39mm case of the Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is a Swiss-made, automatic Dubois Depraz movement made specially for Fears. This slim movement is classed as a true 'high complication' as it records the day of the week, date of the month, month of the year, leap year cycle (and without requirement for any correction for different length of month or the leap year cycle every four years). All done mechanically, and automatically.

Once set, this movement's calendar display will not need adjusting until the year 2100 when a simple correction will suffice for its next 100 years of operation. A true mechanical marvel and all within a 39mm housing.

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is also the first Fears in modern times to feature a moonphase indication. Located in its own sub-dial at 6 o'clock the moonphase display shows the cycle of the moon via one of the two hand-finished silver moons appearing and tracking across the black lacquer 'sky' over the course of 29.5 days. From the moment you wake up you'll know what to expect when you look up at the night sky each evening.

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar sits within the Eminence Collection, denoting that the movement is finished by hand. Which in this example features polished bevels and a fine, delicate frosting before a final coating in a dark Anthracite grey.

Winding itself when worn on the wrist, this movement boasts a generous power reserve of 47 hours and a custom solid 18ct gold winding rotor with fine finishing.

STRAP

The Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar is fitted to a hand-sewn matte Ostrich skin strap in Walnut Brown. This luxurious material is extremely hard-wearing and over time develops a gentle polish to its surface. This warm dark brown has been specially selected to complement the warmth of the Silver Mink dial.

Lined in our signature Fears Blue Alcantara®, a suede-like material that is soft against the skin yet extremely durable. The strap is secured to the wrist with Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher) that has been brushed & polished to perfectly match the case finish.

Customise

You can customise your Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

Due to the differing architecture on this particular case our bespoke 5-Link Brunswick bracelet is not compatible with this model.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

PERPETUAL ACCESSORIES

To ensure your Brunswick 39 Perpetual Calendar never needs adjusting each watch comes complete with a custom Fears watch winder manufactured by SwissKubik in Switzerland. This winder can be powered by both mains electricity or by battery cells (for storage and use within a safe) and is pre-set specifically for this watch to ensure it is always wound and displaying the correct time, date and moonphase.

For easy adjustment if the watch is stopped a Fears corrector pin is included (along with clear step-by-step instructions) to ensure safe and easy setting of the calendar and moonphase.

EDWIN BOX

The flagship of the Fears collection is presented (along with its accessories) in our Edwin Box. Though larger than our regular Amos box, the Edwin box still continues the tradition of being made from solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of Fears Blue.

The top of the box is discreetly inset with a piece of marquetry with a stylised depiction of the Union Flag of the United Kingdom. The box is lined in a premium suede-like microfibre lining and secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
