The Brunswick 40’s elegant yet sporty 40 mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces. The case’s glancing curves are machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish along with the hand grained finish applied to the top of the case’s corners showcase the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.
Complementing the case is our bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding screw down crown, signed with the Fears Cypher. Screwed into the case, the crown’s fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.
Built with uprated proportions, the Brunswick 40 is 150m water resistant, allowing it to be swum in when the crown is screwed all the way in.
The Brunswick 40 'Boutique Edition' features a Mallard Green dial that has not been used on a regular production Fears before and is a unique offering. This special dark green has hints of grey and blue that recreates the rich colours that adorn the head of the mallard drake duck.
Expertly made in Germany, the surface of the dial is on two levels, each with its own distinct finish:
- Central lower section – Finished with micro-guilloché. Concentric rings are cut into the dial’s surface using a CNC machine. These delicate ‘rills’ are so fine, like a record's grooves, that they appear invisible to the naked eye yet catch the light giving a beautiful, subtle sunburst finish.
- Outer raised section – Finished with a delicate sunburst finish that catches the light as the watch is worn.
The colour of the dial is achieved using a galvanic coating of 99.9% pure silver before being hand-painted with a translucent varnish which incorporates drops of pigment to produce the exact desired tone.
The ‘Edwin’ numerals are milled from a block of brass before being diamond polished and then coated in rhodium. These numerals are realised in our custom ‘Edwin’ typeface, specially designed for Fears by our horological typographer and inspired by the many different typefaces the company has used throughout its history.
The Brunswick 40’s distinctive ‘Fears’-shaped hands are milled from solid brass with a bevel cut down the centre using a diamond tool. This results in a highly polished surface that catches the light, giving excellent legibility in low-light conditions. These hands are finished with a coating of rhodium that perfectly matches the polished 3D numerals.
The Brunswick 40 is powered by a Swiss made, automatic winding ETA 2824-2 movement. Winding itself when worn on the wrist, this movement is made to Top-grade standard with a decorated winding rotor hidden behind the closed case back. This movement has had its date mechanism removed allowing precise control when setting the time with no "ghost" date position.
The accurate and reliable ETA 2824-2 movement is a popular choice, with easy servicing and regulating. We service and modify each movement in Britain.
The Brunswick 40 is fitted to a bespoke stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.
Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.
The Brunswick 40 features a 20 mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.
The perfect fit!
When you purchase a Brunswick 40 we can adjust the bracelet size for you before sending it. Please contact us by email with your order number and wrist size and we’ll do the rest. We will provide any spare links in an envelope with your watch.
The Brunswick 40 can be fitted with any of our range of hand-made premium leather straps. Each strap can be fitted easily without any tools required. Please view our complete strap range here.
Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved between the lugs at 12 o’clock, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.
For decades, Fears presented watches in a dark blue box with a cream-coloured lining. We are delighted to continue this tradition today.
The Brunswick 40 Boutique Edition is presented in a bespoke wooden box, crafted from solid wood, which is stained Fears Blue. Lined in genuine cream suede, the watch sits proudly on a special cushion.
