The Fears Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour 'Ultimus' (created in collaboration with Andrew Morgan) unveils the most contemporary but also the final edition of the Jump Hour.

The 1920s was the origin of the first Fears' wristwatches and this iconic Art Deco period also formed the inspiration behind the 'Ultimus' - whilst it may be influenced by the past it remains firmly rooted in the present.

CASE

Graceful and complex, the curvaceous Brunswick silhouette takes its inspiration from a gentleman’s cushion case watch in the Fears archives, first made in 1924.

The Brunswick’s elegant 40.5mm cushion-shaped case has no flat surfaces with graceful curves machined from 316L stainless steel, to a level usually reserved for precious metals. The depth of the polish showcases the sophistication of the machinery and the skill of the operator.

The traditional and bespoke ‘onion’-shaped winding crown, signed with the Fears Cypher, has fine grooves catch the light, adding a touch of radiance to the edge of the case.

To commemorate this special collaboration, the AMW logo is engraved subtly on the underside of one of the lugs

Caseback

The 'Ultimus' is fitted with an open exhibition caseback, offering and an unobstructed view of the finely decorated movement (and custom Fears Blue rotor adorned with the Bristol flower).

DIAL

The 'Ultimus' contains the most complex dial seen on a Fears' watch and being a ‘jump hour’ watch there are no hour numerals on the dial itself rather in this instance the entirety of the rotating hour disc can be seen through the dial. 

This special dial features three different sapphire elements forming a transparent construction that sits above the hour display, revealing the mechanism below, which is normally hidden.

• Outer Dial – sapphire (with black gradient)
• Minute Track - frosted and semi-transparent

• Inner Dial – a textured luminous ceramic surface

The 'Ultimus' marks the only example within the Fears Jump Hour lineage that doesn't have a window cut-out of the dial at 12 o'clock and instead features an integrated magnifying window to display the hour.

In daylight the 'Ultimus' is a sleek and considered expression of Fears' design language and philosophy, however when in low-light it transforms and a second personality emerges. The luminous ceramic centre and hour disc create a deep blue glow that permeates up and through the entire dial demonstrating another very distinct visual display.

HAND

With the hours displayed neatly in a window, only one hand is required for telling the time. The ‘Fears-shaped’ minute hand includes dual-finishing - one half is hand-polished to a mirror shine whilst the other is frosted. This combination of finishing techniques ensure perfect legibility at all angles (even in low light conditions) and for the Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour 'Ultimus' has then been coated in black PVD.

MOVEMENT

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour is powered by a Swiss made, automatic winding JJ01 movement with a module developed in-house by Christopher Ward (which was originally used in the Fears x Christopher Ward Alliance 01 and is now only exclusively supplied for use by Fears).

Powered by a Sellita SW200, this movement is incredibly accurate, having been regulated to Chronometer grade.

STRAP

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour 'Ultimus' is offered on a handmade Obsidian Black Epsom Leather strap. Epsom leather is a premium leather prized for it's unique texture and durability - the pebble pattern embossed onto the surface gives it both a distinctive look as well as a higher resistance to scratches and scuffs.

Lined in a premium anti-allergenic calf leather in our signature Fears Blue and embossed with both our logo and ‘Handmade in Belgium’. This is both soft and comfortable and will extend the lifetime of your strap. The strap is fastened with the Fears' bespoke pin buckle (featuring the Fears Cypher). 

Customise

You can customise your Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour with any strap designed for a 20mm lug width, including any strap from our range, which you can easily fit yourself without tools.

BRACELET

The Brunswick 40.5 Jump Hour 'Ultimus' can also be fitted to a flush-fitting stainless steel 5-link bracelet with expertly brushed and polished links.

Featuring solid screw links, the bracelet has a substantial feel while the silky-smooth movement of the links ensure a comfortable fit around the wrist. The bracelet can be micro-adjusted with both the 8 mm and 6 mm links provided, ensuring a perfect fit. The bracelet is secured to the wrist using a trigger-release butterfly style clasp with the Bristol flower enamelled discreetly inside the blades.

As with all Brunswicks, it features a 20 mm lug width and is designed to fit all of the straps in our range. The bracelet can be removed without tools using its quick-release springbars.

INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED

Each watch we make carries a unique serial number. Engraved discreetly on the case, this number helps us identify your watch and its history.

AMOS BOX

All Fears watches are presented in a slim, rectangular, wooden box made of solid ash and stained in our bespoke shade of blue. This luxury box was inspired by traditional slim Fears watch boxes used in the past, in which the watch lies flat. Recognising the company's heritage, we called this box the Amos, after the names of both the 2nd and 3rd Managing Directors.

The top of the box is discreetly engraved with the Fears logo and features a gentle bevel around its edges, whilst the interior is lined in genuine cream suede. The box is secured by a polished chrome push button, keeping your watch safe and secure.
